Dutch Tourist Arrivals in Sri Lanka on the Rise – Rebuilding the Hospitality Sector

In a sign of increasing tourist confidence in terms of travelling to Sri Lanka, the recent arrivals of those from the Netherlands have shown an upward trend. This increase coincided with the Dutch Government relaxing its travel advisory to citizens which urged them to visit the island “only if necessary”. Such an advisory came into effect after the tragic Easter day terrorist attacks that took place in April this year.

Following an improving security situation along with promotional activities by the Embassy of Sri Lanka and consultation with the EU Member States, the Netherlands agreed to downgrade its travel advisory to Sri Lanka. Luxury resorts on the island including the likes of Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort are hoping that as traveller confidence grows, more Dutch tourists will arrive and boost the hospitality industry.
