Eid al Adha – Festival of Sacrifice

One of the most important festivals of the Muslim calendar, Eid al Adha which translates into the “Feast of Sacrifice” falls on the 10th day of Dhū al-Ḥijjah, the final month in the Islam calendar. This festival is one of the grandly celebrated religious festivals in Maldives. During this time of the year, hotels and resorts in Maldives such as Baros Maldives announce special deals, offering guests some of the best experiences from dining to excursions in Maldives. Eid al-Adha continues for three days and honours Prophet Abraham’s willingness to obey God by sacrificing his son Ishmael. The festival prayer is performed on the on the 10th of Dhu al-Hijjah, just before the entering of noon time after the sun completely rises. Due to unavoidable reasons (e.g. natural disaster) prayers could be delayed to the 11th or 12th Dhū al-Ḥijjah.
