Evolving Travel Demand in Niseko – How Visitor Trends are Shifting Beyond Winter
Travel patterns around Niseko are evolving beyond the traditional ski season, with growing interest in year-round stays. According to figures published by VISA, Japan recorded 13 million arrivals between December and March during the 2024–2025 winter, with international visitors accounting for nearly 80% of skier traffic and 90% of spending. Notably, around nine in ten of these visitors extended their trips by an average of nine additional days. These extended stays have widened the search for Japan accommodation deals across Hokkaido, Nagano, Chiba, Tokyo, and Osaka.
Niseko attracted more than half of Japan’s international skiers, supported by its English-language services, reliable value for money, and ability to respond to growing global demand. This momentum is reflected in the significant development taking place across Hirafu. Properties such as Chatrium Niseko Japan are situated within an area undergoing significant development, with 22 major projects scheduled for completion through 2026.
Looking ahead, a direct railway connection between Tokyo and Niseko could further enhance Niseko’s reputation as one of the world’s premier travel destinations.
