Feasibility Study to Implement New Airport in Central Sri Lanka Proposed – A future-focused decision by the government

In order to accommodate the increasing tourist footfall to the country, Sri Lanka aims to construct a domestic airport in the central hill country near the city of Kandy. The proposal to conduct the feasibility study for the project was approved by the cabinet during the month of August and Speculations and budgeting are underway. The idea of building an airport here was put forward by the tourism board as the city of Kandy is a popular destination among both foreigners and locals. This was also an effort to boost tourism to the country as Sri Lanka expects to increase the number of tourists arriving at the country by two folds. After the construction, tourists will also be able to visit many attractions around the region without much of a hassle. Neighbouring resort properties the likes of Amaya Lake Dambulla along with many other Kandy and Dambulla hotels were very much happy to hear this news since this will increase the number of guests they receive in the future.
