From High-Octane to High-Yield — Singapore’s Year-Round Sports Tourism Strategy

Singapore is expanding its horizons beyond the Formula One race, aiming to cultivate a steady stream of sports tourism all year long. At the 2026 World Table Tennis Singapore Smash, which will be held at the OCBC Arena, Resorts World Sentosa is proudly joining as a presenting partner for the first time.

With the support of the S$165 million Major Sports Events Fund from SportSG, the initiative is set to bring in regular “tier-two” events like badminton, rugby, and marathons, in addition to the larger races. Lilian Chee from STB mentioned that these events help keep Singapore “relevant and exciting” for visitors all year round. Professor Alexander Josiassen chimed in, noting that a steady sports calendar provides the city with “repeat visibility, not just a short spike”.

Whether visitors book their stay at places like Hotel Boss or seek other affordable accommodation in Singapore, these recurring sporting events help balance travel demand across the calendar.
