Thailand, a nation that is heavily reliant on tourism finally relaxed their restrictions for travellers. Following the sandbox system, the country officially opened its gates to fully vaccinated travellers on the 1st of February 2022. This system required all vaccinated travellers to face 2 PCR tests, one on the first day and another on the fifth day by checking into hotels like Avani+ Khao Lak Resort, which was not well received by some of the travellers from most resorts of the country like Phuket, Krabi and Khao Lak hotels.
The Tourism and Sports Minister of Thailand, Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn stated that a proposal was made to replace the second PCR test with a rapid antigen test which would be more efficient and less costly for travellers. Prioritising the wellbeing and convenience of tourists, the nation took this step to further relax the existing restrictions on travel in hope that COVID-19 would soon be declared an endemic in the country.
