After a gap of three years, the popular Galle Literary Festival is back once again in 2016. The event which features a wide cross-section of local, Asian and international literary greats and new talent will be held from 13th to 17th January, 2016 at various venues across the city of Galle including within its iconic Dutch Fort. Due to the event’s popularity finding accommodation in Galle is no easy task during the festival and participants can consider staying at easily accessible Hikkaduwa hotels such as Citrus Hikkaduwa. Named as the Fairway Galle Literary Festival due to Fairway Holdings being the title sponsors, the 2016 edition will see the participation of award winning authors of the likes of Hugh Thomson, Sebastian Faulks and Sonali Deraniyagala as well as Gregory Pardlo (2015 Pulitzer Prize winner for Poetry) and Claudia Rankine (Forward Prize winner). While Sri Lankan and other Asian authors and poets will also be in attendance the festival will look to not only focus on literature, but other elements such as visual arts and theatre as well.
