As with previous years, Hong Kong is getting ready to celebrate the annual National Day in two months’ time. It falls on 1st October each year and is in commemoration of the People’s Republic of China being founded on this day in 1949. Following its handover from the British to the Chinese in 1997, Hong Kong has celebrated National Day along with Macau, both of which are Special Administrative Regions that come under China.
In Hong Kong, this day marks a time of great festivity and parades along with traditions such as flag raising ceremonies. One of the key highlights of National Day here is undoubtedly the now legendary fireworks display at Victoria Harbour; those travelling from abroad and wanting to catch the show can stay at a hotel in Wan Chai within easy reach of the harbour including properties such as Dorsett Wanchai Hong Kong. Featuring different themes, this dazzling display is a fitting end to a special day.
