George Goh, Founder of Harvey Norman Ossia, Announces Candidacy for Singapore Presidency

George Goh, founder of Harvey Norman Ossia, to run for President in Singapore – CNA, making him the second candidate to step forward after Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam. Mr Goh, an independent candidate, brings with him an entrepreneurial background, having built a successful business empire spanning 14 countries. With no political party affiliations or baggage, the 63-year-old businessman aims to maintain his independence and offer a fresh perspective in the upcoming Presidential Election.

Having established the Australian electronics store Harvey Norman in Asia, Mr Goh’s decision to enter the race follows recent speculation surrounding his potential candidacy. As the chairman of Ossia International, an SGX-listed investment holding company, he brings a wealth of experience in the business sector. Additionally, his involvement in charitable endeavours, including co-founding the charity Border Mission and serving as a council member at the Red Cross Society, showcases his commitment to community service.

The Presidential Election, set to replace the incumbent President Halimah Yacob, whose term ends on September 13, has gained momentum with Mr Goh’s entry into the race. With reports indicating that the election must be held by the same date, the Elections Department (ELD) has stated that it may be conducted at any time from June 13 onwards. Mr Goh’s decision to resign from his position as Singapore’s non-resident ambassador to Morocco demonstrates his dedication to pursuing the presidency while maintaining his independence.
