Greater Kandy Urban Development Programme Allocated Rs. 1,500M – Tourism a Key Focal Point

The Sri Lankan city of Kandy is set to be further developed this year and Ranil Wickremesinghe, the nation’s president has allocated Rs. 1,500 million in the budget for the “Greater Kandy Urban Development Programme.” This was put in the spotlight by Janaka Wakkumbura, the State Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government who was speaking at the Presidential Media Centre on 29th November 2023.

Apart from the overall development of tourism in the country, he further revealed that emphasis would be placed on improving the road leading to the city of Kandy. 5 star hotels found in this capital of the Central Province such as Earl’s Regency continue to draw tourists in search of memorable holiday experiences and the proposed developments will only serve to attract more travellers. The state minister also added that more than Rs. 34,000 million had been allocated overall for all the island’s nine provinces through various development programmes and projects that will begin in 2024.
