Calling all history enthusiasts to visit Kyoto in January for an exclusive insight into local culture during the Kyoto Winter Special Opening next year. This event will take place from the 6th of January when shrines, temples and historic buildings will be open for the public to explore for a limited period.
This programme is given various themes each year and for 2024, the themes will be “Visiting Dragons in Kyoto for Good Luck in the Year of the Dragon” and “Murasaki Shikibu and the Tale of Genji”. Historic sites related to Murasaki Shikibu’s tale of Genji will be the highlight of the programme. In addition to this, temples depicting dragons in invaluable paintings and other forms of representation will be open for viewing to start the New Year on an auspicious note.
