Growers Market Tour, Cooking School and Lunch – Adventures in Gastronomy

Providing a unique opportunity to learn more about the rich traditions of Balinese cuisine, Alila Manggis organised a special activity for guests, where they got a hand’s on experience in creating traditional local dishes. The programme was conducted at this Candidasa beach hotel on December 27th, 2014 and involved more than just a mere demonstration of preparation methods.

Participants gathered at the onsite Seasalt Restaurant where after an early breakfast, they were taken to the lively Klungkung market in East Bali; here they could purchase ingredients and products needed for the dishes. Following the visit to the bustling village market, participants were taken back to Alila Manggis where they were given a chance to prepare Balinese curry paste and peanut sauce as well as make traditional dishes such as nasi goreng and grilled chicken skewers. Once the food was prepared those in the class were able to sample their handiwork, making for a unique gastronomic adventure.
