Hajj, or known as Hajji in certain countries, is due to be celebrated in Maldives on the 14th of June – bringing with it a time of spirituality and observance to custom. On Hajj Day, pilgrims gather 20 kilometres east of Mecca at the Mount of Mercy to atone for their sins, seek Allah’s mercy, and listen to sermons from Islamic scholars. The observance of the holiday isn’t limited here, and may also be observed by any luxury resort in the Maldives, such as resorts like The Residence Maldives Dhigurah.
Following the completion of Hajj, Muslims worldwide celebrate Eid al-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice. In the Maldives, this festival is referred to as Bodu Eid, meaning Big Eid, as it is considered the holier of the two Eid celebrations. The festivities involve family gatherings, communal feasts, games, and traditional dances, fostering community bonding and well-being.
