Having fun at the Songkran Festival

Bangkok’s most fun and exciting festival, Songkran, is set to splash the streets with joy and merriment once again! For Songkran fans searching for serviced apartments Bangkok, the renowned Somerset Sukhumvit Thonglor Bangkok is an ideal option as it only 30 minutes away from Khao San Road, where most of the major celebrations take place.

Songkran is the traditional Thai New Year’s Day and though it is officially observed from the 13th to 15th of April, in reality the celebrations last a week long! One of the rituals of Songkran is to pour water on family members as a symbol to wash off all misfortunes of last year but in modern times this traditional ritual has been taken to a whole new level. At Songkran, the entire length of Khao San Road is transformed into a massive water fight! Prepare to get wet as you will be splashed with water from buckets, garden hoses and water guns.

Though fun and merriment is a big part of the festival, the main object of Songkran is to be making merit, visiting temples and family re-unions.
