Hellenic Republic and Thailand Renew their Ties in a Bid to Revive Tourism

The Governor of the Tourism Organization of Thailand, Yuthasak Supasorn recently entered into a fruitful discussion with the General Secretary of Tourism Policy and Development, Olympia Anastasopoulou on the revival of the tourism partnership between the Hellenic Republic and Thailand. The two nations share long-standing tourism cooperation, and the Hellenic Republic has often come into the limelight as a favourite tourist destination for visitors from Thailand and vice versa. The two officials also discussed the possibilities for resolving issues on air connectivity and delays in granting tourist visas; two major problems that hamper the partnership between the two countries from reaching its full potential.

According to the statistics by Travel Daily, over 14,000 tourists from Thailand have visited Greece in 2019 with at least 3000 tourist arrivals from Thailand being witnessed in the first quarters of 2022. On the other hand, Thailand welcomed over 40 million tourists in 2019 with European countries contributing to at least 7 million of them. Added to this, soon after the pandemic, Thailand is witnessing a rapid rejuvenation in the country’s battered tourism sector with the country expecting to attain at least 80% of the pre-pandemic levels. In furtherance of this objective, Bangkok resorts the likes of the lavish Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort are considered a treasure trove for tourists.
