Hoi An Lantern Festival 2019 – Celebrating With the Full Moon

The monthly Hoi An Lantern Festival was held once again and offered locals and visitors a chance to experience the truly enchanting sight of the town being adorned with colourful paper lanterns. This popular festival coincides with the full moon each month which is an important day for Buddhist devotees. While this month’s festival took place on 14th August, the next will be held on 12th September.

One of the key highlights of this event is seeing lanterns illuminated by candlelight floating along the river. Those looking to witness such festival traditions can explore the area between the An Hoi Bridge and the Japanese Covered Bridge; it is easy to reach from several restaurants in Hoi An including dining venues like art space. During the festival, lights are switched off at 8pm providing an ideal setting to explore the old town of Hoi An and enjoy a unique lantern-filled setting.
