Hong Kong Airlines Resumes Flights to Maldives – A Good Pick-Up For Tourism

Velena Airport in the Maldives marked a significant milestone on January 19th this year with the arrival of flight HX791 Hong Kong Airlines from Hong Kong International Airport bringing tourists to the island. To commemorate the occasion at Velena Airport, tourists received a warm welcome with a Bodu Beru performance and gift packs.

Hong Kong and China have been 2 key markets for the Maldives and the recommencement of flights from China has made a major impact on the tourism industry. Prior to 2020, China consistently led the arrival charts in the Maldives. In the year preceding the pandemic, over 187,118 tourists from China explored the Maldives, firmly establishing it as one of the top three source markets. The gradual reopening of borders has witnessed a steady rise in arrivals, underscoring the significance of this region. Many of these tourists opt for stays at hotels like Grand Park Kodhipparu Maldives as most seem to prefer stays at a water bungalow Maldives.
