Hong Kong International Airport is launching a series of large-scale projects which will see it being transformed into an ‘airport city’. As part of this initiative, the airport is going to expand to a three-runway system which will allow it to accommodate long-term air traffic growth demand. Another feature will be the development of SKYCITY which will be home to entertainment facilities, retail hubs, dining areas, offices, event spaces and more; the creation of the Sky Bridge, the longest airside footbridge in the world as well as an Automated People Mover (APM) system spanning over 2,000 metres long will be amongst the other highlights.
Recently, Hong Kong International Airport had much more to celebrate as well, as it reached its 25th anniversary since it moved to its present location on the island of Chek Lap Lok. This occasion was marked on 6th July 2023 with various performances and events at the arrivals hall of Terminal 1; these included acts featuring dances, a jazz band and a drum group, while a special cake-cutting ceremony was held too. This international airport continues to be a main hub for those flying to the region and provides easy access for travellers looking to reach a hotel in Hong Kong Island; these include properties such as Dorsett Wanchai which provide an ideal base for business and leisure alike.
