Hong Kong Sees Influx of Tourists – Arrivals Have Already Surpassed 13 Million

Since reopening its borders, Hong Kong has seen an increase in tourists and this number has been further boosted with arrivals from mainland China due to the complete resumption of border crossings; this was highlighted on the Global Times news website on 30th May 2023 which also revealed that amongst the reasons for this were the mainland’s support as well as the new leadership of Hong Kong. The surge in visitors was seen from 15th May 2023 after China restarted the programme offering group travel permits for mainland residents of China to Macao and Hong Kong.

While arrivals to Hong Kong in the first quarter this year stood at 4.41 million, as of June 2023, this Special Administrative Region of China had reached approximately 13 million visitors. This upward trend is set to continue with around 26 million arrivals expected by the end of the year. In Hong Kong, boutique hotel options remain a popular choice for both business and leisure; these include properties like Cosmo Hotel Hong Kong which draws travellers from around the world looking to enjoy the best of this destination once more.
