Horse Racing Festival Held in Nuwara Eliya – Key Events Included the Governor’s Cup

The Royal Turf Club (RTC) in Sri Lanka once again marked its annual horse racing festival with key events being held in March and April this year. The horse racing season kicked off with the RTC Spring and Summer Cup Raceday on 19th March 2022 at the Racecourse Ground in Nuwara Eliya; family bungalow options within easy reach of the venue including properties like Stafford Bungalow provided the ideal base for those looking to catch all the race-day action.

Following the March event, the Royal Turf Club hosted the RTC Magic Million Cup on 3rd April 2022 which featured five races. The marquee racing event took place on 15th April 2022 known as the RTC Governor’s Cup; Alcazaba, a famed horse referred to as the “Queen of the Racecourse”, owned by Ms. Deepthika Jayakody, trained by Raju Virupakshaiah and jockeyed by Aneel Kolltur, triumphed in this historical racing event.
