How Dubai Took Measures to Restart Global Tourism Following the COVID-19 Pandemic

Dubai has slowly begun to normalise the tourism experience for its travellers following the relaxed COVID-19 measures that were taken previously. As a result, most hotels in the city like Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort have been brimming with tourists that have been longing for a post-COVID-19 escapade. Emirates, the largest airline in the United Arab Emirates even offered free passes to the Dubai Expo 2020 as means of attracting more tourists to Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah or a Palm Jumeirah hotel.

Following the decision to eliminate the requirement of PCR tests for fully vaccinated tourists on the 26th of February 2022, Dubai managed to attract a considerable number of travellers who were seeking an opportunity to travel without the hassle of the COVID-19 test swab entering into their system. Helal Saeed Al Marri, the Director-General of Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism credits this growth in tourist arrivals to the visionary thinking of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, who is also the ruler of Dubai.
