With growing concerns about dealing with plastic in the world, the Integrated Transport Centre in Abu Dhabi has come up with a special system. Commuters of public transport can now travel for free if they collect and dispose of plastic bottles in the right way. Those who earn points through this will be able to travel for free within the emirate.
For phase 1 the Department of Municipalities and Transport have installed plastic deposit machines where disposing of plastic bottles will credit a traveller a certain number of points. Bottles which are 600 ml or less will gain 1 point and bottles or containers more than 600 ml gain 2 points. If you are staying at an Abu Dhabi resort the likes of Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara, remember to collect your plastic water/drink bottles and use them when you travel.
