Identified railway stations and historic forts to be developed as tourist attractions – A much-needed restoration

Prasanna Ranatunga, the Tourism Minister of Sri Lanka, recently declared that a special fund of Rs. 162 million will be allocated for the development of railway stations and historic forts of the country. Under this program, railway stations located in Bandarawela, Nanu Oya, Negombo, Kandy, Bentota, and Kalutara will be considered. 62 million LKR will be reserved for this, where they will work towards developing the infrastructure facilities (seating and restrooms) mainly. After the successful implementation of this development project, those who holiday at one of the best luxury hotels in Nuwara Eliya the likes of Heritance Tea Factory will get to enjoy the renewed railway stations and historic forts. Visiting these attractions will definitely be a treat to many travellers.

Rs 100 million has been reserved for the restoration of historical forts. They include the forts located in Mannar, Kalpitiya, and Batticaloa.
