IHG Continues to Focus on Sustainable Initiatives – Its Resort in Maldives a Highlight

IHG Hotels & Resorts unveiled its 10-year business plan in 2021 titled ‘Journey to Tomorrow’ with a focus on sustainability and caring for the planet and the people; since then, this reputed hospitality brand has continued taking steps to ensure that its properties worldwide fulfil these objectives which were put in the spotlight on the Breaking Travel News website on 19th April 2022. Of these, Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives was mentioned as one of the standout examples.

Amongst the best resorts in Maldives for families and couples alike, the property has installed a vast number of solar panels that provide renewable energy. Additionally, it’s also part of a wave energy project, a collaboration between the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University, the Maldives Ministry of Environment and Kyoko Tatemono Company Limited. The project harnesses the wave power of the resort’s well-known “Kandooma Right” surf break to provide sustainable energy. Also, of note is that the resort has waste, water & electricity management initiatives in place and actively gets involved in programmes focused on community engagement and upliftment too.
