Increase in Tourist Arrivals to Sri Lanka – Positive Signs for the Year Ahead

While international arrivals to Sri Lanka saw a decline in May this year, there has since then been an increase which bodes well for the local tourism industry. As reported on the News First website on 15th June 2022, the Sri Lanka Tourist Development Authority (SLTDA) stated that the arrival numbers were rising again; according to Dhammika Wijesinghe, the Director-General of the SLTDA, more Indian tourists were expected to arrive, while the country has planned various promotional initiatives to attract travellers as well.

In June this year, the SLTDA also stated that the country is looking to record between 800,000 and 850,000 tourist arrivals by the year’s end which will bring in around USD 800 million.
