Travellers from India have continued to provide the Maldives tourism industry with a boost as they help propel arrival numbers. India has been continuing to retain its position as the leading source market for this destination that’s looking to round off another successful year following the global pandemic. By the middle of September 2022, the country had already recorded over 1,130,000 travellers putting it on track to reach its goal of 1.6 million arrivals by the year’s end. When it came to source markets at the time, Russia continued to take second place, followed by the United Kingdom, Germany, and Italy respectively which made up the top five.
Coinciding with this promising increase in arrivals is that this year marks the 50th anniversary since tourism began in the Maldives; resort options remain the popular choice for travellers including the nation’s first resort, Kurumba Maldives, that’s still in operation, having undergone a transformation to offer the best of the destination along with modern comforts. It will be hoped that the ongoing holiday season will draw more tourists not only from India but the rest of the world too and help end a remarkable year.
