The Maldives suffered a massive loss in the wake of the pandemic. In 2020, when the pandemic was at its height, the Maldives tourism industry suffered, which almost most resorts and hotels out of business. However, with travel restrictions being lifted and the arrival of the vaccine, the country is now able to revive its reputation as a coveted tourist destination, mainly thanks to Indian tourists.

When the Maldives opened its borders to South Asian travellers, the tourism industry was jolted awake, with a 60% revival rate. Many tourists from across the globe, Indian tourists in particular, who had been cooped up at home for months on end, displayed the greatest enthusiasm for travel by pouring into the Maldives in thousands. Maldives luxury resorts such as the Adaaran Prestige Vadoo have been back in business for a while, and the hospitality industry has implemented new protocols, which include the ‘one island, one resort’ model that allows travellers to enjoy every perk of a tropical vacation, even if they decide to stay in one resort for the entirety of their vacation.
