Indian Tourists Drive Arrivals Increase in Sri Lanka – Country Remains the Top Source Market

Sri Lanka’s tourism sector has been enjoying a steady influx of visitors this year, with India emerging as the leading source market. By the end of July, the country had welcomed 1.19 million tourists for 2024 and of this, India stood strong as the top source market year-to-date with figures showing 225,641 arrivals.

Recognising India’s pivotal role in boosting tourism, Sri Lanka has intensified promotional efforts showcasing the island’s many allures. Initiatives included a networking event in July held aboard a cruise on the Ganges in Kolkata as well as B2B roadshows in June targeting travellers from Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

With the extension of visa-free entry for Indian travellers also on offer, Sri Lanka can expect more visitors in the months to come. The south coast and its magnificent beaches continue to be a key draw for tourists who can enjoy staying at hotels in Kalutara, a popular coastal destination. Properties here like Turyaa Kalutara remain an ideal choice, offering enchanting beachside getaways.
