Indonesia Focuses on Sustainable Tourism – Country Targets 14.3M Arrivals in 2024

Indonesia is focusing on sustainable tourism, setting an ambitious goal of attracting 14.3 million international visitors in 2024. This was put in the spotlight in January this year by Sandiaga Uno, the Tourism and Creative Economy Minister who was speaking at the Asia-Pacific Tourism Conference held on the island of Bali. This initiative is part of a strategy that seeks to tap into the current demand for green tourism as well as to create new jobs and boost the local economy.

According to the minister, the country will be focusing on cultural tourism, ecotourism, and adventure tourism in keeping with global trends; he also stressed the need for stakeholders to collaborate to help ensure sustainable tourism practices are followed.
