Indonesia Sets Bold Target of 16 Million Tourists for 2025 – Charting the course for Indonesia’s tourism future

The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism has announced an ambitious target of welcoming 16 million international tourists in 2025, up from the 14.3 million set for 2024. Minister Widyanti Putri Wardhana highlighted this goal during a year-end briefing, alongside a domestic travel target of 1.08 billion trips. Despite falling slightly short of its 2024 international visitor goal, Indonesia exceeded the lower limit of its forecast with 11.6 million arrivals by October.

Revenue from foreign visitors is projected between Rp22.5 trillion and Rp29.2 trillion, with tourism expected to contribute 4.6% to GDP and create 25.8 million jobs. Industry leaders, including the Association of Indonesian Tours and Travel Agencies, emphasise the need for better marketing, revised visa policies, and addressing airfare costs to meet these goals. A private cruise in Indonesia, like the renowned Vela, along with other exclusive experiences, may play a significant role in attracting high-spending travellers.
