Influx of Chinese Visitors to the Maldives – Currently the Top Tourism Source Market

The Maldives is experiencing a welcome surge in tourists, with China emerging as the leading source market. After a period of recovery from the pandemic, Chinese tourists are flocking back to the island nation, providing a boost to the tourism industry. By 2nd March this year, the country had registered 423,863 arrivals with China contributing approximately 54,719, visitors to take first place, followed by Russia and Italy respectively.

One of the reasons for this influx of tourists from China is the increase of direct flights from airlines such as Chinese Eastern Airlines and Beijing Capital Airlines between the two nations; additionally, Xiamen Air is offering chartered flights as well, further increasing easy access to the Maldives. Family resort options on private islands remain a popular choice for such travellers; properties the likes of Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives continue to cater to this growing number of tourists offering the best of this destination.
