Operating in over 25 cities across the Caribbean, interCaribbean Airways, one of the largest airlines in the Caribbean, launched its Guyana service in December 2021. The service was inaugurated with a flight from Barbados to Guyana’s Cheddi Jagan Airport. This service is expected to offer more opportunities for Guyanese travelers to travel to the rest of the Caribbean. The airline, which started operating flights from Dominica, St Lucia, and Grenada to Barbados back in 2020, is now offering almost daily flights between Barbados and Guyana.
With this new initiative, it is believed that more companies will open their eyes to the true potential of the Guyana market. Lisa Cummins, Tourism Minister of Barbados, commended Guyana on its pursuit of becoming a giant in the tourism industry. She also said that Barbados will continue to work with Guyana in order to ensure that business remains in the Caribbean region, especially through tourism.
