International Conference on Sustainable Tourism Agents in Rural Societies Held in Sri Lanka

A special gathering that looked to promote sustainable tourism as well as community development and youth empowerment, the International Conference on Sustainable Tourism Agents in Rural Societies was recently held in Sri Lanka. The conference and related workshops which were conducted from 19th to 25th February took place in the island’s central region namely Horton Plains and the hill capital, Kandy. Participants at the conference included youth delegates from the Solomon Islands, Chile, Tenerife, New Caledonia Island, Bali and the host nation. The discussed projects are expected to focus on sustainable tourism initiatives and looking to incorporate local communities as well which will help with poverty alleviation and unemployment especially amongst the youth.
