International Qiantang River Tidal Bore Watching Festival

Continuing generations of tradition by the people living by the mouth of the Qiantang River, the 18th day of the eighth lunar month signifies the time for the Qiantang River Tidal Bore Watching Festival, and is a time for eating moon cake and watching the natural wonder of the approaching tide. Yanguan Town in Haining is considered one of the best places to watch this phenomenon and locals as well as visitors flock here to see the tidal waves approaching, which can reach heights of up to 8.93 meters. The waves surge through like an avalanche with deep earth rumbling sounds in a magnificent display of the power of nature. Safety is of the upmost importance during the festival and visitors should be aware to stay within the designated areas as the tide is unpredictable and can change without notice. Travellers on the looking out for Hangzhou serviced apartments while visiting the festival might want to check out the Citadines Intime City Hangzhou which is about 45 minute drive from the Yanguan tidal viewing area.
