Japan Airlines Joins Global Sustainable Tourism Council: Spearheading Eco-Friendly Travel Initiatives

On September 1, 2023, Japan Airlines (JAL) achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first airline group worldwide to join The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). By collaborating with Sakura Quality Management Co., Ltd., the sole Japanese organization recognized by GSTC for its distinctive evaluation standards, JAL aims to spearhead sustainable tourism initiatives. This endeavour not only supports the government’s “The New Tourism Nation Promotion Basic Plan” but also addresses pressing social issues like over-tourism and environmental degradation. By offering tourists sustainable travel options and top things to do in Kyoto and other cities adhering to global standards. JAL and Sakura Company aspire to foster meaningful connections and contribute to the preservation of local cultures and environments, exemplifying their dedication to a more sustainable future for the travel industry. The sustainable efforts of the airline industry are similarly mirrored by the hotel industry, including properties of the Park Hotel Group based in Japan.
