Japan Lifts Travel Ban on Certain Nations – Sri Lanka Also Eases Restrictions

In September this year, Japan lifted its travel ban on six nations which were Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and the Maldives. In another development, on 22nd September 2021, the country’s health ministry eased restrictions further for those who had received a full dose of a COVID-19 vaccination recognised by Japan, namely AstraZeneca, Moderna or Pfizer; such travellers had the usual 14-day quarantine period reduced to 10 days.

This was good news for those looking to visit Japan as well as fly out from the country to destinations like Sri Lanka that has eased restrictions to an even greater extent. Following a revision of its arrival policies, from 7th October 2021 onwards, the island nation did not require fully vaccinated tourists to undergo any quarantine. Under strict safety protocols, travellers can now stay at ‘Safe and Secure’ certified properties like Kithala Resort, enjoy dining at Tissamaharama restaurants and embark on adventures at places like the Yala National Park.
