The Maldives which is a tourist destination majorly dependant on the travel and tourism sector was badly affected by the COVID 19 pandemic in 2020. Although the country was one of the first to reopen its borders to international travellers in 2020 itself, the arrivals continued being less. However, the year 2021 has been a great year for the tourism sector of the country because over 800,000 tourists had visited the Maldives during the first 03 quarters of 2021.
Almost all Maldives resort rooms and suites were available for the travellers this year, and hotels such as Hard Rock Hotel Maldives followed very transparent health and safety precautions to safeguard their guests. Out of the total number of arrivals, 22.4% arrivals were from India and 20.4% were from Russia. As per the reports, the average arrivals have been over 4000 per day.
