Quoting an Island newspaper report, Sri Lankan news agency News First, recently reported that the Japanese government had offered a total of One Billion Yen in order to develop the Trincomalee Harbour. According to the report, this was one of the matters discussed during a meeting on economic cooperation between Japan and Sri Lanka that took place on 21st June at Temple Trees; among the attendees were the Japanese Prime Minister’s Special Advisor, Dr Hiroto Izumi and Sri Lankan Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Trincomalee Harbour is one of the most important and strategic natural harbours in the world. Within easy reach of resorts in Trincomalee including properties such as Trinco Blu by Cinnamon, this harbour is known for its natural beauty as well. Apart from offering to develop the harbour, Dr Hiroto Izumi also reaffirmed the commitment of the Japanese government to also develop the Colombo South Harbour’s, East Container Terminal.
