Japan Sees Rise in International Tourists

More Arrivals Expected This Year

Following the reopening of its international borders last year, Japan has been seeing a steady increase in tourists. The rise in arrivals was significant from 11th October 2022 onwards due to entry restrictions being eased; in fact, November last year recorded over 900,000 visitors which was an increase of 87% compared with October. This upward trend continued and according to the Japan National Tourism Organisation, the country welcomed 3,831,900 foreign travellers by the end of 2022 which was a remarkable 15 times more than the figure in 2021.

The top source market for Japan last year was South Korea which accounted for 1,012,700 arrivals followed by Taiwan, the United States, Vietnam and Hong Kong respectively. Many more tourists are expected this year, especially with China slowly easing travel restrictions making it easier for its citizens to go abroad. Travellers are once more enjoying the chance to experience this popular destination which offers safe stays too including at Otaru-based hotels in Hokkaido, Japan. These include well-placed properties such as Grand Park Otaru which apart from being within easy reach of key attractions has stringent health and hygiene measures in place.
