Japan Targets 60M Annual Tourist Arrivals by 2030 – A Bold Vision for Tourism Development
Japan has set its sights on a remarkable tourism goal: attracting 60 million foreign visitors annually by 2030. This target is a testament to the resilience of the nation’s tourism industry which is experiencing a meteoric rise. The first half of 2024 saw the country welcoming a staggering 17.7 million tourists, surpassing pre-pandemic levels for the same period by nearly 7% and underscoring the potential for achieving the 60 million arrivals goal.
Yokohama, a Japanese city south of Tokyo, remain one of the popular destinations for travellers heading to Japan this year. Properties such as Citadines Harbour Front Yokohama remain a popular draw not only for offering Yokohama Kannai apartments but locally curated programmes as well that contribute to the city’s appeal.
A record 35 million foreign visitors are expected this year which will surpass the pre-pandemic peak of 31.88 million visitors in 2019. With tourism spending estimated to reach JPY 8 trillion in 2024, and arrival figures expected to increase even more in the years to come, Japan is well on its way to realising its ambitious vision.
