Jeux des Iles de L’Ocean Indien 2019 – Celebrating Sports and Unity

Also known as the Indian Ocean Islands Games, the Jeux des Iles de L’Ocean Indien was held last month in Mauritius. With its multiple sporting disciplines, this event which takes place once every four years is seen as a kind of “mini-Olympics” and features the participation of seven Indian Ocean island countries; Mauritius, Mayotte, Réunion, Seychelles, the Maldives, Madagascar and Comoros.

Jeux des Iles de L’Ocean Indien 2019 marked the event’s tenth edition and attending this sporting spectacle was amongst the top things to do in Mauritius. The games ran from 19th to 28th July and were hosted at various venues; these included Stade George V, Gymnase de Phoenix and a multi-sports complex in Cote d’Or which could be reached from properties the likes of The Residence Mauritius by Cenizaro. Around 2,000 athletes took part in competitions that included beach volleyball, basketball, football, boxing, athletics and rugby sevens.
