Sri Lanka’s construction sector is becoming more sustainable and environmentally friendly thanks to a partnership between John Keells Properties (JKP) and AGC Innovate. This collaboration was announced in February this year and the highlight was the use of PMAC or Plastic Modified Asphalt Concrete paving for construction projects; this included the iconic Cinnamon Life integrated mixed-use development that spans 4.5 million square feet and features not only luxury apartments in Colombo, Sri Lanka, but offices, a mall, dining venues, entertainment and more.

Crescat Boulevard was another project that also featured PMAC that utilises waste plastic and polythene bags to create an innovative raw material; this initiative is supported by Plasticycle, a social entrepreneurship project by John Keells Holdings. At the time, PMAC paving for roads at both projects had seen a total of over 900 kg of waste plastic being recycled and used thereby creating a more sustainable solution for construction.
