Kandy the last capital of the kings of Sri Lanka is located over 115 km away from Colombo and at present can be reached within 3.5 hours. It has been estimated that the new central expressway or the “Sri Dalada highway” is set to be open for commuters in late 2019 and will reduce the commute time from Colombo to Kandy into the half. The highway is currently seeing its second phase of development from Mirigama to Kurunegala. Making Kandy even more accessible to the rest of the nation, this expressway is said to allure more tourists & locals to the island’s second most popular tourist destination and location for real estate purchases. This budding smart city has been always a welcoming host to tourists with its many attractions and accommodations such Mahaweli Reach Hotel which is a luxury hotel in Kandy.
