The annual Karuah Oyster and Timber Festival in New South Wales took place on 18th of October with most of the region’s locals and tourists in attendance for the engaging cultural showcase. Having taken place at Longworth Park this year’s festival saw visitors based in nearby Nelson Bay hotels the likes of Oaks Lure also among the crowd who came to witness Karuah show their prowess at the dual industries that have shaped its economy, timber and oysters.
As always the wood chopping contests were the true highlight of this year’s event with the area’s top axemen showing off their considerable skills. The carnival like atmosphere of the event which is in its 13th year was no doubt aided by the various entertainment and food stalls occupying the festival grounds. Oyster shucking was another hotly contested sport in this year’s festival itinerary which also included duck races, taekwondo showcases and activities geared towards children.
