Thailand’s Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) has launched the “Khon Doen Pa” project at Khao Yai National Park, promoting safe and more responsible hiking across protected areas. The initiative trains conservation hiking instructors to educate visitors on the ‘Leave No Trace’ principle, waste management and minimising environmental impact
The programme takes place as the number of annual visitors at national parks increases to 10 million. The rising numbers create growing pressure on ecosystems through waste accidents and disturbances to wildlife.
Several hotels in the area, such as Lacol Khaoyai – A Chatrium Collection, provide a convenient base for travellers interested in exploring Khao Yai National Park responsibly. As the region aims to provide more travel options to a sustainable luxury resort, Khao Yai National Park represents a strong destination for nature-focused tourism and responsible travel.
