Koh Samui is set to experience a surge in popularity, dubbed the “White Lotus Effect,” as the third series of the renowned show is currently being filmed on the Thai island. The choice of Koh Samui as a filming location is strategic, as the island is gaining a reputation as the most upmarket destination in Thailand. Recent developments, such as the inclusion of Koh Samui’s best restaurants in the Michelin Guide and the presence of Bangkok Airways, have contributed to its rise as an elite island with the highest concentration of five-star hotels outside Bangkok, with such examples as the Anantara Lawana Koh Samui Resort.
The island’s transformation is evident, making it an attractive destination beyond its historical association with Full Moon parties and beach huts, as well as various other accommodations on Koh Samui, catering to different preferences and budgets, including family-friendly hotels, Airbnb villas, and surprisingly luxurious youth hostels amongst many of the choices for a Chaweng hotel.
