Kurama no Hi-Matsuri- Memorable experience with the dancing flames

Every year the Kurama Fire Festival is held on the 22nd of October. This year the light festival was held at Yuki Shrine in Kyoto. Travellers attending this event witnessed ignited fires from village houses and also had the opportunity to see the villagers parading the streets with lit pine torches. These torches which are called Taimatsu were carried by both children and adults along the streets, after which the burning torches were gathered in front of the gate of the Kurama Temple. Offering were also made to the gods as a form of a Kagura performance.
