Kuramathi Organize a House Reef Clean Up Event for Clean Up the World Weekend – Conserving Marine Treasures

As part of its ongoing eco-friendly initiatives, Kuramathi Island Resort Maldives recently held a special house reef clean-up dive event. The project invited divers to come participate and get involved in collecting any trash and other foreign items that were to be found at the house reef of the resort. Maldives is blessed with a rich marine biodiversity and reefs are seen as an integral part in maintaining this delectate ecosystem. The clean-up dive took place on 18th September, 2015 as part of the global Clean Up the World Weekend initiative which is held every year and was open to only certified divers with at least an open water certification. Among the debris that had made its way to the reef were everything from rusty pipes to weighing scales, which were successfully removed by participating divers. Such projects are part of the resort’s continuing efforts to promote sustainable eco-friendly practices which saw it attaining the TUI Environmental Champion Award for the third consecutive year.
