Laos Partially Reopens Its Borders – New Green Zone Travel Plan Launched

In January this year, after over a year, Laos partially reopened its borders paving the way for travellers to visit this Southeast Asian country once more. The move came under its Green Zone Travel Plan that gave tourists a chance to visit select destinations like Luang Prabang; hotels within this UNESCO World Heritage Site such as Avani+ Luang Prabang offer safe stays too with stringent sanitisation and hygiene measures in place. Vientiane, the capital and Vang Vieng, known for its eco-tourism can also be accessed now.

As part of the Green Zone Travel Plan, travellers from 17 countries can visit Laos including China which is a key market in terms of international arrivals; the other destinations included those in North America, Europe and Southeast Asia. Such moves offer a much-needed boost to the local tourism industry as it looks to get back on track in 2022.
