Lionfish Festival – Turks & Caicos Islands Hosts Its First Lionfish Derby
The Turks and Caicos Islands just hosted their first Lionfish Festival. The Departments of Environment and Coastal Resources and Culture got together with the Turks and Caicos Reef Fund to host the event.
Lionfish makes for a delicious dish and fishermen of the Turks and Caicos Islands have been enjoying good catches over the last few years or so. Organizers are hoping this festival will promote lionfish on a larger scale as a choice for daily consumption, such as other seafood like crawfish and other finfish, which will, in turn, help out the reefs as well.
Travellers hoping to enjoy their winter holidays at one of the many luxury resorts in the Caribbean, such as the COMO Parrot Cay, Turks & Caicos, should indeed give this unique sea creature a try as part of experiencing true Caribbean cuisine.
